Image Translation

AI Image Translator: Translate Text in Images into 18 Languages

Screenshot and camera translators only read the text out to you. Image Translation writes the translation back into the image: AI removes the original text, repairs the background and sets the new text with a similar font style, size hierarchy, color and alignment. It translates the whole image by default, or only the text you select, and Subject protection keeps people, products and packaging text unchanged.

THREE SIMPLE STEPS

Image Translation How does it work?

Follow the steps from upload to download

  1. 01

Upload an image with text and open Image Translation. It starts in Whole image mode, and the top of the panel clearly shows “From → Translate to”.

  2. 02

Choose the target language. To translate only part of the text, switch to Selected text, then click or box the text you want.

  3. 03

Check Subject protection, Keep brand names, Keep numbers and prices and the glossary, click “Translate to …”, then proofread the result before downloading.

✳ Usage tips

The translation is generated by AI and redrawn into the image, so proofread spelling, prices and proper names before publishing. If the original text is tiny or blurry, sharpen the image with Image enhancement first. For several languages, translate from the original every time instead of translating a translation.

After processing, view the current canvas in the editor, compare before and after, and download the result as needed.

Key checks for beginners
  1. 1Proofread the spelling and capitalization of the headline, features and buttons.
  2. 2Confirm prices, currency symbols and numbers match the original.
  3. 3Zoom in to check there are no traces of the old text and the product and packaging text are untouched.
ILLUSTRATED USER GUIDE

Image Translation Illustrated guide

EditRaven AI product guide · Updated

Before you start

Prepare an image with clear text that you have the right to use, such as a product listing image, detail-page screenshot, poster or menu. Decide the target language and what must stay as it is (brand names, model numbers, prices), and list product names or taglines with set translations in a glossary. Image Translation needs you to sign in and uses credits; the cost depends on the model and resolution shown.

01 Upload an image and confirm “From → Translate to”

Choose Image Translation on the left and upload your image. A card at the top of the right panel shows “From → Translate to”, for example “Auto-detect → Spanish”, and the button at the bottom reads “Translate to Spanish”, so you can confirm the target language at a glance.

What to translate starts at Whole image: no detection step, AI finds and translates all the clear text in the picture itself. Change the language in the Target language grid; the selected one has a check mark, and the source language is greyed out so you can't pick it by mistake.

02 Translate part of the text: switch to Selected text

To translate only the headline and leave the rest, switch What to translate to Selected text. The text is detected in your browser, outlined in purple and selected; click any box to deselect or reselect it, and the panel shows “N lines will be translated”.

Words on the same line are joined into full sentences before translating, so nothing is translated word by word. For decorative or small text that was missed, use Add missed text and drag a box on the image. Brand text printed on the product can simply be deselected if it was detected.

03 Set Subject protection, brands, prices and the glossary

Subject protection is on by default: people, products and packaging look the same, and text printed on products and packaging isn't translated, only the flat text in the layout. Keep brand names leaves brands, model numbers and URLs in the original; Keep numbers and prices keeps numbers, prices, currencies and units as they are.

Fit text to layout tightens the wording or reduces the size when a translation runs long, keeping it inside the original area. For product names or taglines with a set translation, add one “original = translation” line per term to the glossary. Put tone or spelling preferences in Additional instructions, for example “For the US market, use American spelling”.

04 Make several language versions from one original

For English, Japanese, Korean and other versions, go back to the original each time, change the target language and translate again. Don't translate the English version into Japanese: errors compound and the image is more likely to drift.

Each language is saved as a new version, and automatically stored in your project when you're signed in. Switch back to the original in your history before translating the next language. Use the same glossary across a set of images so taglines and product names stay consistent in every language.

AI-generated sample images illustrating one image in several languages. Actual results depend on your image and settings.

05 Proofread, then download or fix individual words

When it's done, zoom in and check each area: does the translation read naturally, are spelling and capitalization right, have prices or numbers changed, is there any trace of the old text, and are the product and packaging unchanged? Hold the compare icon to see the original.

If a word or phrase isn't right, translate again or switch to Seamless text replacement to fix just that text without redoing the image. When everything checks out, download from the top right and publish at the size and format your platform needs.

Check this list when finished

  • Headlines, features and buttons read naturally, with correct spelling, capitalization and punctuation.
  • Prices, numbers, currency symbols, dates and units match the original.
  • Brand names, model numbers, URLs and text on product packaging are unchanged.
  • No traces or smears of the old text, and the translation doesn't overflow or cover the product.
  • Every language version was translated from the original, with consistent terms and taglines.

How do I fix a problem?

Some text wasn't translated

In Whole image mode, AI skips very small or blurry text. Switch to Selected text, make sure that text is selected, and box it with Add missed text if needed. If the image is too blurry, sharpen it with Image enhancement first.

The translation is too long, cramped or overflowing

Keep Fit text to layout on and add “keep headlines short” to Additional instructions, or give long headlines a shorter translation in the glossary.

Text on the product packaging was changed

Make sure Subject protection is on. In Selected text mode, deselect the boxes on the product and packaging and keep only the layout text.

It says the source and target languages are the same

The source and target languages must differ. Set the source to Auto-detect, or choose another target language.

WHEN TO USE IT

When to use it Image Translation?

Cross-border listings: turn Chinese main images, feature graphics and detail pages into English, Japanese, Spanish and other versions while keeping the original design, with no redesign needed.

Localization and understanding: translate foreign-language posters, menus, packaging or manuals. If you only need to read the text, a screenshot translator is quicker; use Image Translation when you need an image you can publish.

GOOD TO KNOW

FAQs before you start

How is this different from a screenshot or camera translator?

Screenshot and camera translators read the text and give you a translation while the image stays the same, which is great for quickly understanding it. Image Translation removes the original text and writes the translation in its place, producing a new image you can publish, ideal for multilingual product images, posters and menus.

Which languages are supported?

You can translate into 18 languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Turkish and Hindi. The source language can be detected automatically or set manually.

Does it keep the original fonts and layout?

AI matches each piece of text's font style, size hierarchy, color, outline, shadow and alignment. With Fit text to layout on, longer translations are tightened or set smaller so they stay inside the original area. If the target language has no matching font, a similar style is used.

Are packaging text and brand names translated?

Not by default. Subject protection and Keep brand names are on: people and products stay unchanged, and text printed on products, packaging and labels, plus brand names, model numbers and URLs, stays in the original. Only headlines, features, buttons and captions are translated. Turn off Subject protection if you want packaging text translated too.

Can I translate only some of the text?

Yes. Switch What to translate to Selected text. The text in the image is detected and selected; click a box to deselect or reselect it, and use Add missed text to draw around anything that was missed. Only the selected text is translated.

Will prices, numbers and fixed terms stay accurate?

With Keep numbers and prices on, numbers, prices, currency symbols, dates and units keep their values. For taglines or product names that need a set translation, add one “original = translation” line per term to the glossary and AI will follow it. Still proofread the result.

Is Image Translation free? Does it work on phones?

It works in any phone or desktop browser with nothing to install. Translations are generated by AI and use credits based on the model and resolution you choose, and signing in each day gives you free credits. The exact cost is shown before you translate, and failed tasks are refunded automatically.
